Elaine (aka EteL) reviews SeaStars 2007

I don’t know Elaine personally. She learned about SeaStars from Victor (whom I invited), who asked her if she’d like to review the album.

Here’s what Elaine emailed back to me:

I believe there are certain songs that touched us whenever we listen to them.
Songs that describe our souls, songs that make you feel so much that you started to tear.

I had no prior information to what kind of music this album is about, or is there any singer.

Upon receiving the honour of reviewing this music album, I instinctively plugged in my earpieces so that I can absorb all of the essence, or so I hoped.

And I am not disappointed.

The first track caught my ears immediately, as the sound of waves rang ever so soothingly… and peaceful. And as I go with the flow of the album, I couldn’t bear to pause the tracks. I like the way sounds are incorporated into the songs, to give a better overall feel. And as I closed my eyes, I felt embraced by the calming seawaves, and I could almost imagine myself diving down the sea… Looking at the all the amazing creatures underneath.

I wished I had a set of the songs in better quality though as I’m very sensitive to the pitching of instruments. It seems to me that there’s a tempo distortion in the first track. Also, I noticed that some of the songs do not have a specific bridge, is that it was supposed to be?

In conclusion, I give this album a 4 out of 5. I like it, and my favourite piece had to be that Starfish. 🙂 That track’s on the loop now on my pc. All in all, this album’s a worthy buy definitely!

Looking forward to this album in 2008!

Elaine aka EteL

In the same email, Elaine shared this about herself:

I write songs, sing them, collaborated with Fang Muxiong (a songwriter at Warners), and had joined singing competitions before.

Elaine composes, sings, collaborates with a professional songwriter, joins singing contests… and she thinks our album is worth buying?

(Adrian, I swear I’m not making this up!)

Thanks so much for your kind words, Elaine. You’ll be hearing from us about that free CD.

SeaStars 2007

Oh, it’s not for sale though. We don’t really have plans to sell anything. The songs can be freely downloaded once we post them to a permanent site.

But if you know of anyone interested in buying CDs rather than downloading, we’d be happy to make some arrangements, heh.

  1. Wow, with such an impressive review from Elaine, I am not sure if there’s anything leftover for me to write about the album, heh.

Hey Ivan, did you invite Wee Kiat and Peter to review the album too? (They are musicians in their own right. Besides, they should be working for their CDs too. :p)

Okay, I better not say too much otherwise there’s really nothing leftover for me to write.

Oh BTW, that’s a very nice cover design for the album.

  2. OK I’ll ask if they are interested in reviewing the songs. BTW the cover design is just temporary. We’re waiting for the artwork to come in.

  3. […] Victor Koo reviews SeaStars 2007 Victor (another fellow Friend of Yesterday.SG) had trouble downloading the tracks, so I emailed him the lower quality 64 kbps version. Incidentally, he was the one who connected us with Elaine. […]
